Uzbek president, U.S. Assistant Secretary discuss situation in Afghanistan

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Robert Blake on Wednesday, National Information Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) reported.

Blake, who headed the U.S. delegation of government organizations and private companies, arrived in Uzbekistan to attend the third round of bilateral political consultations.

During the meeting President Karimov stressed consistent deepening and intense nature of the Uzbek-American dialogue, stressing the mutual desire to develop mutually beneficial and long-term cooperation.

The sides discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral relations in such important spheres as regular contacts of foreign ministries, inter-parliamentary ties, many-sided exchange at the international level and between civil societies of both countries.

They also exchanged views on developments in Afghanistan, and other issues of security and stability in Central Asia.

Robert Blake on behalf of the United States praised Uzbekistan's role in ensuring security and sustainable development of the region, peaceful revival of Afghanistan.

President Karimov wished efficient work to the participants of the third round of Uzbek-U.S. political consultations.
