President: Uzbekistan's people will never turn off chosen path of development

On Saturday Uzbekistan celebrates its main holiday - Independence Day.
According to tradition, as part of preparation for the holiday, cities and villages are decorated, new facilities introduced, charity and ceremonial events organised.
The main celebrations were held yesterday in Tashkent National Park of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi.
It was attended by members of the government, both houses of parliament, figures of science, culture, art, leaders of manufacture, businessmen, representatives of foreign embassies and international organizations.
President Islam Karimov addressed people with congratulations. Congratulating Uzbek people on Independence Day, the president paid tribute to the diligence, courage and fortitude of the people, due to whom the country has managed to achieve high levels of development.
"I am convinced that centuries and millennia will pass, but the big day - Independence Day, which returned to us a sense of national identity, pride and honor, the right to control the destiny of our country, the sacred religion, values, customs and traditions, will remain forever in the history and will be written in golden letters in the annals of our country," Islam Karimov said.
"21 years is a very short time by the standards of human history for the process of state formation and their appearance on the world map. However, in this short period Uzbekistan, of course, has overcome distance equal to centuries," the president said.
The president noted that today, no one can deny internationally recognized achievements through the implementation of large-scale tasks that the country has set itself - becoming one of the modern developed democratic states, civil society building, renovation of all walks of life, modernization and diversification of the economy .
