The new Ambassador of the Czech Republic Hynek Pejcha on Tuesday handed over to the leadership of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry a copy of his credentials addressed to President Islam Karimov, the press service of the Foreign Ministry said.

The sides exchanged views on topical issues of Uzbek-Czech relations in bilateral and multilateral formats.

Special attention was paid to the promising areas of cooperation in trade, economic and investment fields, noting the mutual interest in increasing the volume of trade, attracting foreign direct investment in joint projects in various sectors including tourism infrastructure.

"The parties also discussed the practical aspects of cooperation development in the cultural sphere," the press service said.

Pejcha was appointed head of the diplomatic mission of the Czech Republic in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and Turkmenistan, headquartered in Tashkent in August.

In this position he succeeded Robert Kopecky, who has completed his diplomatic mission in October last year.

Currently, in accordance with the bilateral agreement "On economic, industrial and scientific-technical cooperation" Uzbekistan and the Czech Republic established preferential treatment. Uzbekistan has 14 companies with Czech capital, of which five are purely Czech. Representative offices of 12 Czech firms and companies are accredited under the Ministry of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade of Uzbekistan.
