Newly appointed extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman Muhammad Bin-Sa'id Bin-Muhammad al-Lavati delivered the copies of credentials to the Uzbek Foreign Minister on Thursday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said today.

Newly appointed extraordinary and plenipotentiary ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman Muhammad Bin-Sa'id Bin-Muhammad al-Lavati delivered the copies of credentials to the Uzbek Foreign Minister on Thursday, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said today.

"The sides exchanged the views on the perspective directions of bilateral relations," the ministry said.

In particular, the parties discussed the practical issues of intensifying the Uzbek-Omani cooperation institutions, as well as the schedule of contacts at various levels.

They also discussed the implementation of agreements in the cultural-humanitarian sphere, the proposals of expanding the relations between tourist companies of the two countries.

It was previously reported that Uzbek President Islam Karimov paid an official visit to Oman in October 2009. The bilateral intergovernmental agreements on the basis of cooperation, including trade and economic cooperation, air communication, as well as more than a dozen documents on oil and gas, chemical and construction industries, higher education, tourism and investment were signed following the talks.

Moreover, it was agreed to open diplomatic missions in Tashkent and Muscat.

At present, Uzbekistan and Oman have intergovernmental agreements on mutual encouragement and protection of investments, avoidance of double taxation and prevention of evasion from payment of taxes on capital, and an agreement on establishing a joint Uzbek-Oman Investment Fund.
