Uzbekistan and Germany intend to develop bilateral cooperation

Representatives of the diplomatic agencies of Uzbekistan and Germany discussed the present situation and further prospects of relations between the two countries during the eleventh round of political consultations, said the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry.

The delegation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany led by Foreign Minister responsible for Eastern Europe, Central Asia and the Caucasus Antje Leendertse arrived in Tashkent to participate in the political consultations held on Tuesday. The Ambassador of Germany Aristide Emil Fenster took part in the discussions.

The sides discussed the cooperation in the forms of Uzbekistan - the European Union, Central Asia - the European Union, within the framework of international organizations. Besides, the sides discussed issues of global and regional importance, the situation in Afghanistan as well as other topics of mutual interest, said the press service of the Foreign Ministry.

It was mentioned that Tashkent and Berlin have identical or similar views on many issues, including the fight against terrorism, organized crime, drug trafficking, which promotes the constructive cooperation between the two countries in the international arena.

It was noted at the meeting that the desire of the parties to develop consistently the traditional friendly relations between the two countries in all spheres of cooperation was clearly demonstrated by regular contacts of Uzbekistan and Germany at different levels.

The sides focused special attention on the economic, commercial-financial and technical cooperation and confirmed their interests in further development of mutually beneficial economic ties.

The implementation of joint projects in the cultural and educational fields was also discussed during the meeting.

Germany is one of the main trade partners of Uzbekistan in Europe. The investment projects worth over one billion euros have been implemented in Uzbekistan together with leading German companies.

The German government has allocated to Uzbekistan more than 300 million euros in the framework of financial and technical cooperation, including 248.2 million euros within financial cooperation, and about 58.4 million euros within technical cooperation between the states.

The agreement on financial and technical cooperation between Uzbekistan and Germany was signed in September. Main directions of cooperation between the two countries for 2012-2013 were also identified that time.

The Uzbek-German trade grew by 13.8 percent - up to $ 549.5 million in 2011.

There are 116 companies operating in Uzbekistan, which have been established with the assistance of investors from Germany. The representatives of approximately 50 German firms and companies were accredited in Uzbekistan.
