Uzbekistan increased electricity generation by 0.2 percent up to 52.534 billion kilowatt-hours in 2012 compared to 2011, a source in the government circles told Trend today.

Uzbekistan increased electricity generation by 0.2 percent up to 52.534 billion kilowatt-hours in 2012 compared to 2011, a source in the government circles told Trend today.

The heat energy volume for consumers for 2012 decreased by 0.2 percent - up to 18.876 million Gcal.

It was reported that electricity generation increased by 1.3 percent up to 52.416 billion kilowatt-hours in Uzbekistan in 2011 compared to 2010.

More than 98 percent of electricity is generated by Uzbek power plants under Uzbekenergo established on the basis of the Electricity and Electrification Ministry.

At present, around 45 power plants with a total capacity of 12,400 MW, including 16 power stations of "Uzbekenergo" with a total capacity of 12,040 MW operate in the Uzbek power system. The rest electricity is generated by autonomous thermal power stations of the industrial enterprises and small hydroelectric power stations belonging to the Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources.
