Uzbek President receives French FM

Uzbek President Islam Karimov received the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France, Laurent Fabius on Saturday, who had arrived on a working visit to Tashkent, the National Information Agency of Uzbekistan (UzA) reported.
The meeting focused on the priority areas of cooperation between the two countries, including in the economic and trade area, realization of joint high-tech projects with leading companies in France, whose leaders came to Uzbekistan as part of the French delegation.
The sides discussed issues of cooperation between the French Development Agency, which started its activities in Uzbekistan in accordance with the signed Memorandum of Understanding.
With the participation of the French capital in Uzbekistan currently operates more than 20 facilities are accredited representatives of several large companies.
The sides also discussed key issues of regional security and stability, particularly long-term peaceful solution of the conflict in Afghanistan and promote its social and economic revival, and discussed issues of deepening cultural-humanitarian ties as at the international level and between civil society institutions.
During the visit, the French foreign minister also held talks at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, where an exchange of views on the state and prospects of Uzbek-French relations and cooperation in political, economic, trade and other areas with significant potential for expansion of cooperation.
Uzbekistan and French diplomats also discussed issues of regional security.
