Uzbekistan, Austria hold another round of political consultations

The next round of political consultations was held in Vienna (Austria). The delegations of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs discussed the state and prospects of the Uzbek-Austrian-sided dialogue, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said today.

The next round of political consultations was held in Vienna (Austria). The delegations of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry and the Austrian Federal Ministry for European and International Affairs discussed the state and prospects of the Uzbek-Austrian-sided dialogue, the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said today.

According to the report, the parties stressed during the consultations that the bilateral cooperation has been traditionally developing on a traditional friendly basis for over the last 20 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. A solid legal basis was formed. There is positive experience of cooperation in various fields of mutual interest.

The parties stood for intensifying the contacts between the parliaments of the two countries to share experience of ensuring the political-legal and socio-economic reforms. They also exchanged views on major international and regional issues.

The cooperation in the cultural-humanitarian field, as well as mutual exchanges between educational and scientific institutions were discussed.

The mutual interest in further expanding and diversifying the relations in trade-economic and investment spheres was confirmed at the meeting.

Implementing new joint projects in such high-tech sectors as mechanical engineering, electrical production, energy saving equipment, construction materials, pharmaceutical, chemical and textile industry, agricultural industry, information and communications technologies meets the interests of both sides.

It was reported that Uzbekistan and Austria established preferential regime.

The trade-economic relations are also governed by a number of bilateral agreements, including "Bilateral foreign economic cooperation", "Promotion and reciprocal protection of investments", "Air communication", convention on "Avoidance of double taxation and prevention of tax evasion on income and property" and other documents.

Some 31 joint ventures with the Austrian capital and 10 enterprises with Austrian investments are operating in Uzbekistan. Some 10 representative offices of Austrian companies were accredited. Their main spheres are the production and sale of pharmaceutical products, equipment supply, consulting and maintenance services.
