According to Uzbek President Islam Karimov's decree, August 9 is declared a day off.
"Taking into account the Uzbek Board of Muslims' decision, August 9, 2013 is declared as a day off and will be widely celebrated as a holiday in the country," the decree on 'Celebration of Ramadan Hayit' published in the media on Wednesday said.
According to the presidential decree, such funds as Nuroniy, Mahalla, and Camelot Public Youth Movement, other relevant departments, public organisations were instructed to organise the necessary events in connection with Ramadan Hayit at a high level and in accordance with the national values of the people.
According to the president's special decree, two main Muslim holidays - Ramadan Hayit and Eid al Fitr are days off in Uzbekistan.
At present, more than 2200 religious organisations of 16 different religious faiths operate in the country. Over 90 per cent of them are Muslim, as most of the 30 million population practice Islam.
Moreover, around 159 Christian organisations, eight Jewish communities, six Baha'i communities, the Krishna Society and a Buddhist temple were registered in the country.
