Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan discuss bilateral relations

Uzbek President Islam Karimov and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev discussed the agenda of the Bishkek summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) which opens today, as well as the issues of development of bilateral relations, Uzbek Media outlet reported.

Uzbek President Islam Karimov and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev discussed the agenda of the Bishkek summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) which opens today, as well as the issues of development of bilateral relations, Uzbek Media outlet reported.

According to the report, the Uzbek president noted the significance and importance of the SCO summit which will involve all members of the organisation, as well as the responsibility of Kyrgyz leadership for its success.

"This event which will be at the centre of world attention, is of great significance for Kyrgyzstan's life and development," Uzbek president said, a media outlet reported.

According to the report, Karimov wished Atambayev success in holding the summit.

According to the Uzbek president, participation of new people including recently elected Chinese President Xi Jinping and Iran's new president at the SCO Bishk4ek summit increases its importance.

For his part, Atambayev thanked his Uzbek counterpart for the help and support to Kyrgyzstan in 2010 during June occasions in the southern countries.

According to him, not only he, but also the whole Kyrgyz nation has been waiting for the Uzbek president's visit to attend the summit.

The summit's programme envisages 10 key issues, including the situation in Afghanistan, fighting terrorism, illegal drug and weapon turnover and trans border organised crime.

The outcome of the summit will be a political document entitled the Bishkek Declaration.
