Jacques-Henry Heuls, who was appointed as France's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary in Uzbekistan, handed over the copies of his credentials to Uzbekistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulaziz Kamilov, on October 4, the Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

During the meeting the sides discussed issues of bilateral relations, as well as in the Uzbekistan-the European Union format.

The sides also discussed a number of international and regional issues.

Kamilov and Heuls underscored the positive dynamics of the Uzbek-French cooperation, especially in trade, economic and investment fields, noting the considerable potential for further development of cooperation.

At present, the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation, intergovernmental agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investments, agreements on cultural, scientific and technical cooperation, an agreement on avoidance of double taxation and prevention of evasion from payment of taxes on income and capital have been signed between Uzbekistan and France and preferential treatment regime has been established.

Currently, the French Development Agency, 17 joint ventures, established with French capital, four enterprises with a 100-percent French capital and accredited representatives of 12 French firms and companies are operating in Uzbekistan.

By late 2012, the trade turnover between Uzbekistan and France amounted to $278 million.

It was earlier reported that the previous French ambassador to Uzbekistan, Francois Gauthier completed his diplomatic mission in Uzbekistan in July, 2013.
