Officials will face strict liability for irrational use of energy in Uzbekistan

The amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility and the law on the Rational use of energy, envisaging the sanctions against officials for wasting energy, came into force in Uzbekistan.

The amendments to the Code of Administrative Responsibility and the law on the Rational use of energy, envisaging the sanctions against officials for wasting energy, came into force in Uzbekistan.

In particular, the provision of the Code about liability for irrational use of electric and thermal energy, has been partially supplemented.

According to it, officials will pay a fine in the form of 15-30 minimum wage rate in case of repeated offenses. Currently, a minimum wage rate is 91,530 soums per month in Uzbekistan.

The amendments to the law on the Rational use of energy envisage strict liability of officials of enterprises and organizations engaged in the energy generation and consumption. From now on, officials will be personally liable for irrational use of energy.

According to the Ministry of Economy, energy losses hit up to four percent of GDP in Uzbekistan annually.

At present, the Uzbek government together with the International Development Agency (IDA) of the World Bank (WB) is implementing a project to improve the energy efficiency of industrial enterprises.

The official exchange rate is 2.158.36 soums /$1 on Oct. 13.
