Uzbekistan and Singapore are interested in further enhancement of bilateral trade turnover, investment cooperation, and joint projects with the use of advanced technologies, the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry said.
According to the Ministry's press service, these issues were discussed at a meeting, held at the Foreign Ministry on Thursday, with a delegation from Singapore led by the Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, Second Minister for the Environment and Water Resources and Second Minister for Foreign Affairs, Grace Fu, who is on a visit to Uzbekistan.
The sides discussed the state and prospects of Uzbek-Singaporean relations in various fields. Proposals on institutionalizing relations were also discussed. The sides also exchanged views on separate international and regional issues.
The sides noted the constructive character of cooperation within the UN and other leading international political and financial institutions.
Special attention was paid to the promising areas of trade and economic cooperation. Currently, Uzbekistan has 32 enterprises with Singaporean capital, operating in the spheres of light industry, power engineering, electronics manufacturing, and food production.
Uzbekistan and Singapore attach great significance to the development of cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere, including through the establishment of working relationships between education and research institutions, the Foreign Ministry's press service said.
The Singaporean delegation included the representative of the Foreign Ministry and the Trade and Industry Ministry.
The program of the Singaporean delegation's visit included talks with the First Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Rustam Azimov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Economic Relations, Investments and Trade Akmal Kamalov and Deputy Water and Agriculture Minister Shavkat Khamraev.
Grace Fu will meet with students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy of Uzbekistan. She will also visit Samarkand, familiarize with its sightseeing places and will hold talks with the deputy head of the administration.
