Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan consider political settlement main focus in resolution of Afghanistan turmoil

The main conditions for resolving the Afghan problem is a political settlement and achieving peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan through the wide use of diplomatic means and methods, recovery of the economy and improvement of socio-economic life of the population, a joint declaration of the Uzbek and Turkmen presidents said. The declaration was adopted within Turkmen President Gurbanguli Berdimuhamedov's visit to Tashkent which started today at the invitation of Uzbek President Islam Karimov.
The declaration said that the agreement and adoption of mutually acceptable decisions on the whole complex of intra-regional problems in Central Asia should be implemented first of all by the region's countries themselves on the basis of principles of equal right, mutual benefit and respect to each other's interests.
The document also emphasizes the necessity of taking joint measures aimed at formation of fair and rational water use system in the Central Asia on the basis of commonly accepted norms and principles of the international law taking into account the interests of aldl countries of the region.
Heads of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan pointed out the importance of further strengthening and improvement of activity of International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS) and called on the international community to contribute to IFAS in implementation of priority directions of its activity.
