Uzbekistan is interested in the sustainable development of Kyrgyzstan, Uzbek Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev said during talks with his Kyrgyz counterpart Jantoro Satybaldiev, the Uzbek government told Trend.
"We are close neighbours and Uzbekistan is interested in sustainable development of neighbouring Kyrgyzstan," Mirziyoyev said. "For centuries our people lived side by side in harmony sharing common religious and cultural values. We have no other alternative."
Satybaldiev said the Kyrgyz side wants to be involved in constructive dialogue on all issues of Kyrgyz-Uzbek relations.
During the meeting, the Kyrgyz Prime Minister also stressed the importance of regular contacts between representatives of the border areas of the two countries. This will contribute to the strengthening of good neighbourly relations, trade development and solving border problems.
A spokesperson said the prime ministers discussed a wide range of bilateral issues.
They also discussed water and energy issues, the gas supply, fertilisers and the full functioning of checkpoints on the Kyrgyz- Uzbek border.
Satybaldiev invited Mirziyoyev to visit Kyrgyzstan.
The Kyrgyz prime minister arrived in Tashkent to attend a meeting of the Council of heads of governments of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).
