Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Feb. 25

By Demir Azizov - Trend:

Uzbekistan and the United Nations have discussed joint activities in the field of ecology.

Uzbek Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov received on Tuesday the UN Secretary General Special Representative, head of UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) Miroslav Jenca, who is visiting Tashkent.

During the meeting the parties exchanged views on specific international and regional issues, the press service of Uzbekistan's Foreign Ministry said.

In particular some environmental issues regarding the rational use of trans-boundary water resources in Central Asia were discussed.

The parties discussed practical aspects of joint work between UNRCCA and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS), the chairmanship of which was handed over to Uzbekistan this year.

They also discussed the progress of the program on measures to eliminate the consequences of the Aral Sea's drying and prevention of ecosystem disasters in the Aral Sea's adjacent areas.

This program was developed by Uzbekistan and spread as an official document of the UN General Assembly 68th Session.
