Uzbekistan's Senate elected Shayunus Gaziyev the chairman of the country's supreme court during a plenary session held Aug. 29.
Gaziyev was elected to this position on the Uzbek President Islam Karimov's proposal.
Prior to this appointment, Gaziyev was the supreme court's first deputy chairman.
Before him the position of the supreme court chairman has been held by Buritosh Mustafayev since 2006. Mustafayev, during the plenary session of the Senate, was elected deputy chairman of the constitutional court.
