Deputies discuss new laws for Uzbek media outlets

It is planned to simplify the process of considering applications for registration, as well as to improve the procedure for registering websites online as a media outlets.

This should be noted in the law “On Amendments and Additions to the “Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Mass Media”, the draft of which was considered in the first reading by deputies of the lower chamber of the country’s parliament.

According to the parliament, the adoption of the law will help create legal, economic and organizational conditions that ensure freedom of activity, access to information, and protection of the media from unlawful decisions of state bodies, actions or inaction of their officials.

In addition, legal mechanisms will be established for provision of state support to journalists and creative groups through privileges and preferences for taxes and other mandatory payments, financial and social assistance.

Particular attention is paid to strengthening the material and technical base, organizing the activities of the funds, as well as retraining and upgrading the skills of editorial staff.

Also, the law “On Amendments and Additions to the Law of the Republic of Uzbekistan” On the Protection of Professional Activities of Journalists” is under discussion as well.

As noted by the deputies, the draft law aims at increasing authority of journalists in the field of ensuring the transparency of state bodies, as well as in covering topical issues of public interest.

Representatives of the media will be granted additional rights in implementing professional journalistic activities.
