Election to the Kengash (Councils of People’s Representatives), will be held for the first time at the districts of Uzbekistan's capital.

Addressing the solemn ceremony dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution on Dec. 7, Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev said that from now on the Councils of People’s Representatives will operate at the district level in Tashkent.

“Until now, there have been no such structures in the capital’s districts. We have made appropriate changes to the Constitution of the country. Residents of Tashkent now can participate in management of city districts through their representatives," said the president.

In his opinion, the role and importance of the representative bodies of power elected by the people – the parliament, the Council of People’s Representatives in the socio-political life of the country – has changed radically.

The powers of the Supreme Assembly and political parties have been gradually expanded, the institutions of parliamentary and public control are being strengthened, he said.
