Uzbekistan Railways JSC has completed the project on modernization and electrification of the Karshi-Kitab railway, the company's press service reported.
As a result, the total length of the electrified railway section reached 124 kilometers.
In the course of the work, two bridges were built and some stations were reconstructed. In addition, specialists have modernized the track bed and installed protective grilles.
Now the company has started tests on the site. The first train, Afrosiyob, has been launched recently for test run. Regular train movement is scheduled to start in September 2018.
Total cost of the project exceeded $58 million. The Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan allocated $18.9 million to the project and the rest was covered by Uzbekenergo and Uzbekistan Railways, as well as by the state budget.
