Tajikistan plans to export electricity to Uzbekistan

Tajikistan plans to export 2 billion kilowatt hours of electricity to Uzbekistan's south, from April to October of 2019 which is 800 million kWh more than last year, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of Tajikistan Usmonali Usmonov said, Trend reports via ASIA-Plus.

The northern regions of Tajikistan receive 3 million kW/h of Uzbek electricity daily. In turn, Uzbekistan's south daily receives 17 million kW/h of Tajik electricity during winter.

After the Minister’s speech, Tajik deputies unanimously ratified the agreement signed in November 2018 between the Government of Tajikistan and the Asian Development Bank on the project “Reconnecting Tajikistan’s Energy Networks to the Central Asian Energy System”.

ADB allocated $35 million as a grant for implementation of this project.

This money will be spent on synchronization of Tajik energy networks with the energy systems of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan and creation of relay systems to protect networks.
