Uzbekistan, EBRD discuss further development of co-op

Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov and Managing Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) for Central Asia Bruno Balvanera held talks, Trend reports via the Uzbek media.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the current activities of EBRD in the country, presentation of a new EBRD managing director candidate from Uzbekistan and further development of cooperation with the international financial institution.

The parties discussed the organization of the first meeting of the Foreign Investors Council in the first half of 2019, as well as the visit of the EBRD President Suma Chakrabarti to Uzbekistan as part of the planned event.

Uzbekistan and EBRD have loan agreements totaling $622.5 million on seven projects aimed at improving the water supply and heating systems in the capital and regions of the country, as well as modernizing the electricity sector.

EBRD is actively involved in reforming Uzbekistan’s energy sector, privatization of state enterprises and development of the capital market.
