EBRD interested in expanding co-op with Uzbekistan

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the head of the European Bank for Reconstruction (EBRD) and Development discussed the acceleration of investment projects and the development of loans, as well as the expansion of bank assistance in promoting the country's economic reforms, Trend reports with reference to gazeta.uz.

Mirziyoyev on June 10 received a delegation from the EBRD led by its president, Suma Chakrabarti. This is the third visit of the head of the bank to the country over the past two years.

During the meeting, the issues of accelerating investment projects and loans were discussed, along with expanding of EBRD assistance in promoting economic reforms in Uzbekistan, creating a favorable business environment and investment climate in the country.

The parties paid attention to the creation and preparation of the first meeting of the Foreign Investors Council under the President of Uzbekistan. The Council, created with the assistance of the EBRD, will include representatives of large foreign enterprises operating in Uzbekistan. This body will allow to effectively solve problems and issues related to their activities.

At the moment Uzbekistan and the EBRD have signed and conduct preparation of investment projects on modernization of power and municipal infrastructure in regions with attraction of the credits for the sum more than $600 million. Investments into projects of the private sector for over $100 million are enclosed. Socially important programs and projects for about $800 million are studied.
