Uzbekistan records increase in number of natural monopolies

The Antimonopoly Committee of Uzbekistan registered 137 natural monopolies on 11 types of services in the first half of 2020, Trend reports citing the committee.

In the first half of 2019, there were 123 monopolieson 10 services, that is, the number of companies increased by 14 during first half of 2020 (11.3 percent).

These are mainly services on transportation of natural gas by pipeline, energy production, postal service, water supply, sewerage services and air navigation etc.

In the first half of 2020, Ammaphos-Maxam JSC in Tashkent region (electricity transportation); Navoi Railway in Navoi region; Tashkent Wall Panel Plant LLC in Tashkent city and Istimtur LLC in Tashkent region were excluded from the register due to suspension of production.

According to the Committee's statistics, since January 2019, the largest number of small businesses and micro-firms has been established in trade (39.1 percent), industry (21 percent), construction (9.4 percent), agriculture, forestry and fisheries (eight percent), housing and nutrition services (7.8 percent) and transportation and storage (3.2 percent).
