Uzbekistan increases profitability of its textile exports

The profitability of the textile products export in Uzbekistan from January through September 2020 increased by 14.6 percent compared to the same period last year and reached the amount of $1.3 million, Trend reports referring to the press services of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

According to experts, the increase in the volume of exports of goods can be considered as a result of reforms aimed at the production of finished products and the formation of added value instead of the production of raw cotton.

Cotton yarn takes the first place in the structure of textile exports (48.3 percent, or $643.8 million), followed by finished knitwear and garments (28 percent).

In particular, only T-shirts were sold for $131.8 million, while the worth of exported cotton fabric amounted to $63.7 million.

In addition, cotton wool ($19.5 million), silk waste ($17.8 million), carpets ($15 million), and raw silk ($10.7 million) were also in the top ten of Uzbekistan’s textile export.

Export of textile products, which included more than 455 varieties of goods for 9M2020 amounted to 10.8 percent of the total export volume and was carried out to 60 countries of the world.

The largest share of textile products exported from Uzbekistan falls on Russia ($486.5 million - 36.3 percent), China ($277.5 million - 20.7 percent), and Kyrgyzstan ($196.5 million - 14.6 percent).
