Russian Ulyanovsk free economic zone to cooperate with Uzbek Angren free economic zone

Governor of Russia’s Ulyanovsk Region Sergey Morozov held a meeting with the leadership of the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, during which the economic and investment potential of the region was presented, Trend reports referring to the Uzbek media.

“We have outlined the promising sectors for cooperation, namely, light and furniture industries, production of auto components, machine tool building, medical tourism, cooperation in the field of wind energy,” the message said.

“We separately considered the issues of trade and the creation of the Center for Consolidation of Goods in the special economic port zone,” the message said. “The textile manufacturers were invited to our sites in industrial parks.”

“In turn, we reviewed the “Angren" and "Navoi" special economic zones of Uzbekistan, we discussed the same topic with the government of Samarkand,” the message said.

“We agreed that a delegation of Ulyanovsk entrepreneurs will visit Uzbekistan in May 2021,” the head of the region wrote on his Facebook page.

The residents of Ulyanovsk special economic port zone and Angren free economic zone will establish production cooperation and will also cooperate in the field of export within the partnership.

Angren free economic zone was established in 2012. The total area is 14,500 hectares, including the territory of Angren and Akhangaran cities (Tashkent region). There is an international logistics center in the free economic zone.

The electrical, mechanical engineering, chemical, pharmaceutical, food enterprises and others are located on the territory of the special zone.

Currently, 69 enterprises are residents of the free economic zone, implementing 74 projects with a total investment of $757.7 million.

The Ulyanovsk free economic zone is the only special economic zone of the port type in the country, created on the basis of the Ulyanovsk-Vostochny airport.

The Ulyanovsk free economic zone focuses on the implementation of projects in the field of production, development of cargo logistics and international trade.

Today, 36 companies are residents of the Ulyanovsk free economic zone. Among them are the Russian, foreign investors from Germany, China, Slovenia and Sweden.

The enterprises operating here have invested about three billion rubles ($38.9 million) in the economy of the Ulyanovsk region and have created about 700 new jobs.
