Uzbekistan discloses processing capacity of sunflower seeds by 2022

The processing capacity of sunflower seeds in Uzbekistan by 2022 may reach almost 1.1 million tons per year in accordance with the forecasts of experts of the Association of Fat and Oil Industry Enterprises of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Association Kamar Serkaev said.

Serkaev made the remark during the online conference entitled "Asia Grains & Oils Conference: Online Edition", organized by APK-Inform, Trend reports referring to the Uzbek media.

“At the same time, the most positive trends in this sphere are observed in the regions of the Fergana Valley, Tashkent and Samarkand regions, as well as in Tashkent city,” the deputy chairman said.

“As a result, it is expected to master the production of new types of wide range products, the sale of which within the country will lead to a balance in the consumer market, which will result in a decrease in the cost of goods and an increase in income,” Serkaev stressed.

Today there are more than 240 oil and fat enterprises in the Republic of Uzbekistan, which produced about 280,000 tons of vegetable oils and more than 650,000 tons of coarse grits in 2020.

“The total annual capacity of oil-extracting enterprises is more than 4.3 million tons of oilseeds,” the Association said. “Some 3.3 million tons of that volume accounted for cotton seeds and more than one million tons - soybean and sunflower seeds.”

“The statistics shows that processing capacity will grow in the coming years, but the capacity for processing cotton seeds will rapidly decline,” the deputy chairman added.
