Uzbekistan remains largest importer of Kazakh wheat

The volume of whet imported by Uzbekistan from Kazakhstan from January through February 2021 amounted to 398,600 tons of wheat worth $84.5 million, Trend reports referring Kazakh monitoring agency Energyprom.kz.

According to the information, the share of Uzbekistan’s imports of wheat amounted to 71.5 percent of all Kazakhstan's exports to the CIS countries, which makes Uzbekistan the main importer of Kazakh wheat.

Earlier it was reported that in the period from January to September 2020, almost 6.7 million tons of grain crops were grown in Uzbekistan, which is 2.4 percent more compared to the same period in 2019.

The State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan noted that the largest amount of grain was grown on farms - over five million tons (85.1 percent of the total production).

Also, the volume of wheat imports to Uzbekistan from January through September 2020 in physical terms amounted to 1.8 million tons of wheat, while in value terms it amounted to $363 million.

According to the ministry, Uzbekistan’s import of wheat for the same period in 2019 in physical terms amounted to 1.6 million tons and $272 million in value terms.

At the same time, Uzbekistan supplied 488,000 tons of wheat to foreign countries for $143.5 million over the past nine months.

The bulk of exports fell on Afghanistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, and Denmark. The country sent 22,000 tons of grain to Afghanistan and Tajikistan for $4.5 million.
