Uzbekistan plans to expand the range of Uzbek products for Lidl Latvija and Lidl Eesti, a German supermarket chain in Latvia and Estonia, Trend reports with reference to the Ambassador of Uzbekistan in Latvia.

The Ambassador of Uzbekistan, Kadambay Sultanov, held a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the supermarket chain Lidl Latvija and Lidl Eesti, Jacob Josefsson, with the participation of the Director for Procurement of these divisions Alexandru Mag.

During the meeting, the prospects for building up mutually beneficial cooperation between the Latvian and Estonian divisions of Lidl in terms of establishing supplies from Uzbekistan of a wide range of products in demand on the European market were discussed.

The ambassador presented detailed information on measures taken in Uzbekistan to stimulate exports and plans to increase exports of domestically produced products, which is also facilitated by the recently received status of the beneficiary of the preferential trade system with the European Union GSP + by our country, which allows duty-free import of 6,200 items of Uzbek goods.

It is reported that an agreement was reached on establishing permanent working contacts and exchange of relevant information, contributing to the expansion of the range of Uzbek products for Lidl Latvija and Lidl Eesti.

Founded in 1973 Lidl is one of the largest German discounter supermarket retail chains, which belongs to the German holding Schwartz Gruppe. Lidl chains operate in 30 countries of the world, including the US. The turnover exceeds $90 billion. In 2018, Lidl Latvija was established with the aim of entering the Latvian market.

In January 2021, a logistics hub with an area of 51,000 square meters and a cost of about $60 million was commissioned in Riga. To date, 14 retail outlets have been built throughout Latvia. The official opening is expected as the epidemiological situation in the country improves.
