BAKU, Azerbaijan, Aug. 19

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Over 1.5 million tons of potatoes were produced in Uzbekistan in 1H2021, which is 3.5 percent more than the same period last year, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

It is noted that in 2021, the dynamics of average wholesale prices for potatoes of the current year's harvest are generally similar to last year. From the beginning of April to the end of June 2020, the average wholesale prices for potatoes of the current year's crop decreased from 12,000 soums / kg ($1.25) to 3,400 soums / kg ($0.34), while for the same period in 2021, prices for these products decreased from 14,000 soums / kg ($1.34) to 3,500 soums / kg ($0.33).

From early July to mid-August 2021, average wholesale prices for potatoes continued to decline to 3,000 soum/kg ($0.28), which is in line with last year's mid-August levels. However, current prices are 50 percent higher than the same date in 2019.

Thus, in 2021, the average wholesale prices for potatoes of the current year's harvest in Uzbekistan as a whole repeat the dynamics and price levels of 2020. At the same time, from June to mid-August 2019, average wholesale prices for potatoes were 1.5 to 2.5 times lower than in the same period in 2021.

The committee notes that in 1H2021, 1.4 million tons, or 92 percent of the total volume of potato production in Uzbekistan, fall on the share of dekhkan (personal subsidiary) farms, while the rest 122,800 tons or eight percent fall on the share of farms.

In relation to the same period in 2020, an increase in production was observed in farms by 7.3 percent and dehkan (personal subsidiary) farms - by 3.4 percent.

In addition, about 74 percent of the total volume of potato production falls on the total share of six regions of the country, including Samarkand (18.5 percent), Surkhandarya (13.6 percent), Fergana (12.4 percent), Andijan (11 percent), Bukhara (9.8 percent) and Tashkent (nine percent) regions. The total share of the remaining seven regions of the republic amounted to 26 percent.
