BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb.23

By Natavan Rzayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan Airways JSC plans to increase passenger traffic in the second half of 2022, Veys Niftaliyev, deputy representative of Uzbekistan Airways in Azerbaijan, told Trend.

"There is pent-up demand, and the population has saved funds to spend. Therefore, the second half of 2022 will be better than the first," Niftaliyev said.

According to him, Uzbekistan Airways believes that the current low level of passenger traffic is due to quarantine restrictions, unpredictably introduced by governments of countries.

"In general, the economic situation looks satisfactory, given that the level of production and the index of entrepreneurial confidence exceeded pre-crisis levels", said the deputy representative of the airline.

He noted that air traffic is expected to increase in the summer season.

“Despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, air travel is gradually recovering. The airlines are optimistic about the long-awaited turnaround in air travel demand that has been held back by lockdown restrictions”, Niftaliyev said.

He also spoke about the measures taken over the past three years to improve the airline's operations.

"In 2019, Uzbekistan Airways put into operation the fifth Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft, and for the first time launched the Airbus A320neo equipped with a Wi-Fi system, the Internet service was launched on board. All flights are operated by aircrafts from the world's leading manufacturers: Airbus (11 aircrafts), Boeing (16 aircrafts). In total, our fleet has 27 aircrafts. In 2021, the airline successfully transferred to the new Amadeus Altea PSS platform," Niftaliyev said.
