BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 24. Uzbekistan has launched a large solar photovoltaic plant with a capacity of 100 megawatts in the Nurabad district of the Samarkand region,Trend reports via Uzbek Ministry of Energy.

The plant will generate 260 million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year and provide electricity to more than 80,000 homes.

The commissioning of the plant will save 78 million cubic meters of natural gas per year and prevent the release of 100,000 tons of harmful emissions into the atmosphere.

The project for the construction of the plant cost $100 million and was implemented through direct investment by the French Total Eren company.

By the end of 2023, in the Kattakurgan district of Samarkand region, it is planned to launch the second largest solar photovoltaic plant in the region with a capacity of 220 megawatts.
