BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 13. Labor migrants of Uzbekistan in May 2022 sent $1.65 billion to the country, which is almost 2.7 times more than the same indicator last year, Trend reports citing "Gazeta.uz".

Uzbekistan received transfers from January through May 2022 in the amount of $4.19 billion, which is $1.58 billion, or 61 percent more than in the same period last year.

At the same time, the indicators of currency exchange operations have sharply increased.

Banks purchased $4.32 billion worth of currencies from the population from January through May 2022, which is $1.6 billion, or 59 percent more than in the same period last year. In May alone, the volume of purchases amounted to $1.05 billion.

Meanwhile, banks sold $2.84 billion worth of currencies to citizens ($610 million in April), which is $1.17 billion, or 70 percent more than last year.

The volume of international money transfers in 2021 to Uzbekistan amounted to $8.07 billion, which is 34 percent more than in 2020 and 2019 ($6 billion).
