BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 8. Uzbekistan became second largest gold buyer in the world in May, 2022, with 9 tons, with Turkiye leading with 13 tons, Trend reports via the World Gold Council.

According to the council, in May, the world's central banks reported an increase in their gold reserves by 35 tons.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan took the third place by purchasing 6 tons of gold. The Central Bank of Qatar (5 tons) and the Reserve Bank of India (4 tons) also reported on the growth of reserves.

Germany was the only country to reduce its gold reserves by 2 tons, which may be due to a long-standing coinage program.

In April 2022, Uzbekistan took the first place in the world ratings of gold buyers (8.7 tons).
