BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 5. ADB will continue to help Uzbekistan both with public-private partnership (PPP) advisory and private-sector investments, ADB’s Uzbekistan Resident Mission told Trend.
“Uzbekistan continues to be our largest country for PPP advisory and we are currently engaged in several sectors, from renewable energy to water treatment and district heating. During the 2nd Economic Forum held in Samarkand on 3-4 November, we expanded our engagement to social sectors, healthcare, and education in particular, in line with the government’s desire to strengthen human capital development,” the mission representative said.
According to the source, ADB has already expanded its private sector investments, including the financing of the 500MW Zarafshan Wind project, the largest wind farm in the region.
“We will continue financing private sector-led renewable energy projects in 2023 as well as expanding to other sectors, including agribusiness and healthcare. We will also continue supporting Uzbekistan’s efforts in reforming and transforming state-owned banks and enterprises. In addition, we are now in the process of preparation of the new Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for 2024-2028,” the representative added.
The strategic pillars of the new CPS will be consistent with Uzbekistan’s strategic development priorities and reforms for 2022–2026, including transforming to a green economy, strengthening resilience through human capital development, and facilitating competitiveness with private sector participation, the source reported.
