Around 523 accidents, which killed 232 people and injured 499 have been registered in Azerbaijan during the first three months of 2014. This is 123 road accidents, 26 deaths and 192 injuries less than in the same period of 2013. The protective and administrative measures taken by the country’s traffic police and improvement of road infrastructure had certain influence. Some 30 percent of accidents occurred due to excessive speed, 31 percent - overtaking and driving down the oncoming lane, and 2 percent because of drunk drivers. Remaining cases proved the fault of drivers and pedestrians.
