( Fars News Agency) Leader of the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council (SIIC ) Abdel Aziz Hakim, who underwent medical treatment in a Tehran hospital, could eventually get rid of his lung cancer after tests and CT Scan images revealed that his swelling and inflammations have healed. Speaking to FNA here on Tuesday, Hakim's Political advisor voiced pleasure with the positive results of his tests, and said that Hakim's breathing troubles have been cured.

Mohsen Hakim also said that the Iranian medical team have stated their satisfaction with Hakim's health conditions, but meantime added that he still needs to receive complementary treatment.

The 57-year-old Hakim first went to the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Centre in Houston to see lung cancer specialists, but he changed his decision later and asked Iranian specialists to cure him.

Hakim's SIIC, which until recently was known as the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq (SCIRI), was founded in Iran in 1982 as an opposition movement in exile.

The party returned to Iraq in the aftermath of the US invasion of March 2003 and had since become one of the pillars of the ruling coalition government.
