Tehran Strengthens Ties with Damascus

Iran Materials 3 November 2008 18:22 (UTC +04:00)

Manouchehr Mottaki, the Foreign Minister of Iran, paid one day visit to Damascus on 3 November, the Ynet agency reported.

Iran foreign minister intends to meet with senior representatives of the Syrian regime and to discuss relations between the two countries. It is expected that Mottaki will also meet with Syrian President Bashar Assad and Vice President Farouk al-Shara as well as with his counterpart, Foreign Minister Walid al-Mualem.

Presumably, the parties intend to develop a common position on this issue due to the attack by American military aircraft to Syria last week.

According to witnesses, during the raid of four U.S. helicopters in the area of Abu Kamal (Syria-Iraq border), two of them fired at a building in the town, while two others landed in American landing forces and destroyed people in the building. Apparently, this raid was the result of anti-terrorist operation

The official Damascus called the American attack within its borders heinous crime and said that it would respond in similar way
