Tehran prosecutor halts opposition newspaper's activity

Tehran prosecutor's office and representatives of the Iranian Culture Ministry halted the spread of the Etimad Milli (National Trust) newspaper.

Former presidential candidate and Secretary General of the National Trust Party Mehdi Karroubi's last statement caused suspending the newspaper's spread, the party's official Web site reported on July 1. Earlier, Chief Editor of the newspaper Mohammed Gochani and another employee Mujtaba Tehrani were arrested.

The Etimad Milli newspaper is a body of the National Trust Party. In the last statement, Karroubi protested against the results of the June 12 presidential election. He said that the government formed as a result of the election is illegal. The former presidential candidate said that he would not participate in any activities of the government. He urged all forces that supports changes to unify and hold a joint meeting.
