Iran seizes 60 tons of drugs per month: Iranian official
The law-enforcement agencies confiscate about 60 tons of drugs per month and this is a very high rate, Iranian Police Chief General Ismail Ahmadi Mugaddam was quoted as saying by the Iranian Isna news agency.
According to Radio Liberty, Iran possesses more than a million addicts.
The county has only 930,000 people of heroin addicts, he said earlier. The number of drug addicts increases by 130,000 per year in Iran.
The authorities believe the penetration of drugs from neighboring Afghanistan - the largest producer of narcotic drugs in the world - is one of the factors complicating the problem.
