Tajikistan supports the implementation by Iran of a peaceful nuclear programme, Tajik President Emomali Rakhmon said on Monday after talks with his Iranian counterpart Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Itar-Tass reported.
"We support Iran's peaceful nuclear programme and come out in favour of the settlement of existing problems through a dialogue with the use of political-diplomatic means," the Tajik leader stressed.
In a reply statement the Iranian leader emphasized that he rated highly the level of relations between the two countries, calling them "stable, promising and fraternal".
"No factor can change our relations," President Ahmadinejad said. Focusing on the situation in the region, the Iranian leader noted that talks had touched upon "regional and international problems, including the situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan".
"We expressed a joint interest in the establishment of a lasting peace and stability in these countries," the Iranian president stressed.
