Film director, supporter of opposition to be released on cash bail in Iran
Iranian film director Jafar Panahi today will be released on cash bail. Iranian news agency ILNA quoted his wife Tahira Saidi.
Bail worth $200,000 will be given for Panahi's release. "According to the Tehran prosecutor's office, Panahi will be released today at 7:00 pm," Tahira Saidi said.
Jafar Panahi couldn't attend the Cannes Film Festival. Winner of the Cannes, Venice and Berlin festivals, Jafar Panahi is a supporter of the opposition. In early March he was arrested at the house of his daughter, along with family members and 15 guests. Despite the fact that all those individuals arrested with him already been released, Panahi is still in Evin prison.
Ten days ago, Jafar Panahi went on hunger strike, demanding permission to meet with his family and lawyer.
