Former director general of the Iranian state news agency İRNA Mohammed Javad Behdad was sentenced to seven-year-imprisonment, Iranian news website parlemannews.ir. reported.

Judge of Iran's Revolutionary Court, considering disputes relating to the press, Siyamet Mudirhorasani did not agree with his colleagues, and sentenced former director general to seven- year-imprisonment.

Behdad was found guilty of distributing false material, as well as insulting chairman of Advisory Council, Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, Speaker of the Iranian Parliament Ali Larijani and his brother - head of the Iranian judicial system Sadig Larijani.

Mohammed Javad Behdad holds the post of deputy director of the department of political affairs of the Iranian presidential administration. İRNA news agency director general is the Iranian president's advisor for press Ali Akbar Javanfekr.
