5 Kurdish rebels, 2 IRGC members killed in clashes in Iran: report

Five Kurdish rebels and two members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) were killed in clashes in western Iran, local website Rajanews reported Thursday.

In clashes that took place in Kurdistan's bordering area (with Iraq) on Tuesday night, five anti-revolutionary militants and two IRGC members were killed, the report said.

The report, however, did not elaborate on the affiliation of the insurgents, Xinhua reported.

Iran's western province of Kurdistan witnessed regular armed clashes between Iranian security forces and Kurdish militant parties, in particular Party of Free Life of Kurdistan (PJAK), an anti-Iran Kurdish group linked to Turkey's outlawed Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK).
