Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has ruled out the likelihood of an attack on Iran, stressing that the US would have no reason for such a move, Press TV reported.

"First of all, there is no reason or evidence to support a conflict with Iran," Ahmadinejad said at a press conference in Doha on Sunday. "Secondly, the US is incapable of taking action against Iran."

The president went on to note that certain powers are seeking to launch fresh wars in the Middle East but stressed the Iranian military would be able to effectively counter any attacks, IRNA reported.

"Whenever the Zionist regime [of Israel], the US, and the others have the opportunity to hit countries in the [Middle East] region, they will not wait on anyone's permission," he added.

"The important fact is that they cannot deal a blow to the Iranian nation," Ahmadinejad said.

The remarks were made following a meeting with Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in Doha, where both officials stressed on the need to expand bilateral ties amid efforts to boost Mideast security.
