Iran bolsters ties with Kenya, Pakistan

Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki has expressed the determination of the Islamic Republic to promote relations with Pakistan and Kenya in various fields, Press TV reported.

In a meeting with the outgoing Pakistani Ambassador to Tehran Mohammad Bakhsh Abbasi on Sunday, Mottaki emphasized the importance of expanding political, economic and cultural relations.

The Pakistani diplomat, for his part, expressed appreciation for Iran's efforts to dispatch aid to flood-stricken people in Pakistan.

On Saturday, Iran sent its largest humanitarian assistance convoy to Pakistan, which has been hit by devastating floods affecting more than 21 million people.

The Iranian consignment, worth $10 million and weighing 3,000 tons, contained food, tents, blankets, medicine, home appliances, and water.

Iran says it will continue sending its humanitarian aid to the flood-ravaged country and will soon also send building material.

In a separate meeting with the new Kenyan Ambassador to Tehran, Mottaki said officials of the two countries are resolute to strengthen economic cooperation.

The Iranian minister said Iran and Kenya should make use of their potential to implement economic projects.

He also called on the two countries to facilitate visa issuance and prepare the ground for exchanging visits between their officials.

The Kenyan ambassador expressed hope that Tehran and Nairobi would take steps towards the promotion of their relations.
