Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hassan Qashqavi has stressed the importance of taking joint steps with Turkey to counter terrorism as a common threat in both countries,  Press TV reported.

The Iranian official made the remark in a meeting with Turkish Interior Minister Besir Atalay in Ankara on Wednesday.

Terrorism is among the problems that Iran and Turkey are facing, ISNA reported Qashqavi as saying.

He called on Tehran and Ankara to bolster security cooperation within the framework of security and border commissions.

Qashqavi praised efforts by Turkey to develop democracy and progress in that country.

The Turkish minister, for his part, called for the expansion of relations with the Islamic Republic in all fields, particularly in political and economic interactions.

Atalay also reiterated that security and illegal immigration are among other common issues that the two neighbors have to deal with.

He expressed Ankara's support for Tehran's anti-terror measures and urged enhanced joint cooperation between Iran, Turkey and Iraq to fight terrorism.

Qashqavi is currently in the Turkish capital to attend the 13th meeting of Iran-Turkey Joint Consular Commission.

Meanwhile, in a telephone conversation, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki and his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu discussed bilateral ties and the latest developments in the region, IRNA reported.
