Iran's Majlis (Parliament) is set to send a letter of complaint to the UN chief to protest "inhumane" suppression of French protesters by the country's riot police, Press TV reported.
Zohreh Elahian, Chairman of the Human Rights Subcommittee of the Majlis Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, said Tuesday that her subcommittee intends to send a complaint letter to the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and director of the UN Human Rights Commission to express Iran's disappointment over mishandling of the ongoing crisis in France by French authorities.
Elahian noted that a copy of the letter will be delivered to all human rights institutions as well, Fars news agency reported on Tuesday.
The Iranian lawmaker criticized brutal tactics employed by the French police in the mass detention and beating of French demonstrators who took to the streets to protest against the government's proposed pension reforms.
France has been hit by several coordinated strikes in the past two months in opposition to the planned pension reforms that would increase the minimum retirement age from 60 to 62 and the full state pension age from 65 to 67.
French President Nicholas Sarkozy has refused to back down from his pension reform bill, which is expected to pass through the country's parliament by the end of the week.
Elahian also censured the cruel response of French security forces to the ongoing protests as "illegal and in violation of international laws."
She expressed optimism that international organizations do more to defend the rights of French protesters.
