Iran's Army commander Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan says the country is equipped with state-of-the-art weaponry thanks to domestic expertise and due to self-sufficiency, Press TV reported.

"With independence and self-sufficiency, and reliance on domestic experts, we are equipped with the most advanced military weapons in the world," Brigadier General Ahmad-Reza Pourdastan was quoted by IRNA as saying on Tuesday.

"Iran owes its security, welfare, dignity and might to the altruism of the noble and dignified martyrs," the top general underscored.

"During the (Iraqi-imposed) war (on Iran in the 1980's), we stood up to the global hegemony with meager military equipment, (our) faith (in God), determination and self-confidence," General Pourdastan said.

Iran has managed to develop modern military hardware, including missiles, missile launchers and vessels, despite the US-backed sanctions imposed on Tehran over its nuclear program.

This comes as Iran has announced that its military prowess poses no threat, whatsoever, to regional countries.

Iran has reiterated on numerous occasions that its military might is aimed at deterrence and repelling possible acts of aggression.

Iran's military capabilities can also help ensure tranquility and stability in the region.
