Iran has imported over 2.372 gigawatt-hours of electricity to its neighbors since the beginning of the current Iranian calendar year (it started on March 21) or 45, 34 percent more compared to the same period of last year, the Iranian Ministry of Energy reported.
Iran exported over 4,630 gigawatt-hours of electricity to its neighbors or 5, 88 percent more than the same period of last year.
During the above-mentioned period of last year Iran exported over 4,374 gigawatt-hours of electricity.
Iran exchanges electricity with neighboring countries such as Pakistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, Iraq and Afghanistan.
Earlier, Iranian deputy energy minister said that Iran is one of the world's eight top countries in constructing gas power plants.
Hamid Chitchian said that Iran competes with top countries such as the U.S., Great Britain, Germany, Japan and China in terms of designing, installation and commissioning power plants.
Iran ranks eighteenth in terms of electricity, generated by 400 power plants, commissioned and operating in the country with a total capacity of 57,000 megawatts.
